7. Love Song - Sara Bareilles
Commentary:
I have studied my first four pieces throughout the past two semesters. They represent numerous different styles from the classical repertoire.
The Arabesque was composed by Debusy in the late 1880s. French Romanticism had a great influence on Debussy's works. The opening arpeggio sets up the rest of the piece for its dreamy and colorful journey. The Fantasie-Impromptu is one of Chopin's most well known pieces. The intricate combination of both hands creates a natural intensity within each moving line. Des Pas Sur La Neige, (Footprints in the snow), written later in Debussy's life in 1910, evokes a resigned sadness and solitude. This piece has been considered to be one of Debussy's most melancholy pieces ever written. The "Moonlight" Sonata is most famous for its dark first movement, followed by a light and calm second movement. This final movement, on the other hand, is stormy and in constant action with rapid progressions.
